Guesthouse with clean and neat guest rooms, with beautiful colors, some with a view of the lake

It's easy to spot this red-roofed white house, which has been completely renovated and offers clean, colorful guest rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Much more romantic than the surrounding hotels on the shores of Lake Lagarfljót, some rooms have lake views and a spa to relax in. The restaurant is also excellent, with particularly well-presented dishes, impeccable service and a vintage ambience.

The hotel was nice, room was how it looked in the photos. Don’t be fooled by the spa photos though- you have to pay to use the hot tub which I found quite surprising.. We had dinner at the restaurant there and the burger was mediocre, soup was very good. When we arrived the lady at the front desk extremely rude and unfriendly. Other than her the staff were very nice.

El lugar es un tanto remoto para una visita ocasional a Islandia, pero nos encontrabamos dando una vuelta a toda la isla, por lo que se prestaba parar aquí. El hotel es moderno y limpio, aunque si reservas por Booking te suelen dar unas habitaciones que están "inventadas" en uno de los extremos del hotel, accediendo por una pequeña escalera lateral. Afortunadamente está al otro lado de una vaquería que está pegada al edificio, con los olores que ello conlleva. Mi mejor recuerdo del hotel fue la recepción, que nos ayudaron en todo y los cócteles que preparan en el lobby, super acogedor, por cierto. Y como detalle, mencionar los croissants que sirvieron al desayuno, muy ricos

The team at breakfast were a disappointment. We had to ask for several things on the buffet to be restocked, ranging from refilling the coffee machine to bringing out more warm food items. The responsible employees kept chatting in the back area instead of paying attention. They appeared irritated when we interrupted their little group to ask for assistance. One morning, we even had to go to the lobby and have someone track them down, because they started staying out of sight. This was really the last straw for us. Of our two week trip around the island staying in multiple guest houses and hotels, this one ranked poorest in our experience.

Room was spacious, and tidy.
coat hanger and the long bench was a plus for us with lot of stuff.
one thing i shall point is the floor/tile on the shower area is quite sliperry, i slipped abit, and my cousin fell down in the shower.

i cant comment about service, because i didnt use the service much except the receptionist which was fast and helpful with road information.

a hearty buffet breakfast with lots of options, also they have a good coffee machine.
i would like to point out the hotel have this old charm ambiance decorated with old furniture (but they take a good care of it) which very nice

i would recommend for people staying in egilstadir.
