Litla Hof is a small rural settlement of about ten houses at the foot of Öræfajökull. Since the eruptions in 1362 and 1727, a deep caldera has formed at the summit. The first of these eruptions devastated the entire Litla-Hérað region, which has since been called Öræfi, the "desert". Hof is located 20 km from Skaftafell and 37 km from Jökusárlón. If you want to stop in the area to enjoy the rock and ice landscape and the lagoon between Hof and Ingólfshödi, which is home to a large number of birds, you should consider staying at the guesthouse in Hof instead of at Litla Hof, which offers a much better service for the same price.
