Between Eldgjá and the southwest part of the Vatnajökull stands a row of 135 craters, a monstrous scar of 25   km. The 1783 eruption, which remained famous, had serious consequences: not only did it make significant changes to the landscape in southern Iceland, but it caused a famine caused by the disappearance of livestock: 80   % of sheep, 75   % of horses and 50   % of cows died poisoned by toxic gases. What is the point of the epidemics? The eruption indirectly led to the fall of one quarter of the Icelandic population. It is estimated that the ash cloud, resulting from the eruption, was responsible for the bad harvests in France and one of the causes of the 1789 Revolution! Inside the site, a track runs along the eastern part of the row. A trail climbs at the Rain Summit (818   m), where you can see the site. Craters themselves are beautiful; some form lagoons, others are nucleation with foam.
