Eldgjá, the "faille fault faille" in the middle of two lips, shows the mid-Atlantic rift to the great day. This great deterioration, 40   km in length, is oriented south-east and north-west. The northern part serves as a bed to the Nyrdri-Ofæra River, which rushes there from the top of the western lip, giving rise to the double fall of Ofærufoss. In the past, the lowest part of the fall was topped by a natural lava bridge, but it collapsed in June 1993. The fall itself remains very beautiful.
