The commune of Pieve of Alpago rises at the feet of Mount Dold (1 938 m). Inhabited since ancient times, its territory has always been a place of defence thanks to its excellent view of the S. Croce area and the nearby Cansiglio forest. To witness its past, we still find, preserved in the centre of the city, two illustrious buildings: the ancient parish church Sainte-Marie (unfortunately several times reworked) and Villa Falin (th century). Most of the buildings are in stone with a flat roof, typical of the alpagote area, Towards the hinterland, north of Pieve, the small centre of Curago deserves a careful visit which proves particularly interesting. There are rustic homes built in the th and th centuries. Today, however, Pieve, thanks to its privileged relationship with the near mountains, has become the destination for lovers of skiing, excursion and varappe. This last sport, as well as hang-gliding, recently attracted many practitioners to the Dolada/Dolomieu refuge (above Pieve) which, given its proximity to the Dolomitiques summits and the Piave valley, was elected by new Icarus as an ideal starting point.
