Trnava is nicknamed "Little Rome" for its numerous churches or "New Detroit" for its large automotive industrial presence, including the PSA plant, which ensures a strong French presence in the city. For a long time the residence of the Hungarian archbishopric of Esztergom, the second largest city in Western Slovakia today reveals a fairly well-preserved center, even if the past grandeur of the city is not evident under the functionalist communist architecture that has left its mark. The current young mayor and his team are trying to change things by pursuing a progressive policy.
