After Positano, the road rises again, remains winding and clings to the rocky walls until Praiano, another ancient village of the Amalfi Republic, with a prestigious past. The two churches in the centre, with their earthenware domes, bear witness to this in a beautiful way today. Former summer residence of the Amalfi doges, the town was also the seat of an Angevin university. Its central position between Positano and Amalfi, and its view of Capri, Positano and the Li Galli islands, make it a choice stop. The town of Praiano is spread along the coast, quieter, less "showy" than its two neighbours. There is more of an air of dolce vita, of peace and serenity. Throughout the old town, votive niches, a sort of miniature chapel, covered with frescoes or majolica, bear witness to the devotion of the inhabitants. A particularity of the city, they are, like the altars of Naples, an invocation to divine protection. For a swim, go to the beach of Marina di Praia and its cove surrounded by imposing cliffs, at the exit of the town in the direction of Amalfi. In the vicinity, a small, relaxing path offers other swimming spots and is a pleasant walk along the water's edge. Several hotels on the coast have their own private beach, equipped with deckchairs, parasols and sometimes a bar.
