An important industrial centre at the borders of the Como and Varese provinces. There is a great sanctuary of the Madonna of Miracles, which began in 1458. Inside, some of the most important frescoes of the Renaissance in Lombardy (Gaudenzio Ferrari in the dome and Bernardino Luini in the chapel of the Madonna).
