Twenty kilometers east of Kroměříž, on this hill in the middle of the Haná region, the Celts and later the Slavs already came to worship. Legend has it that Cyril and Methodius, the evangelizers of Bohemia, left a painting of the Virgin Mary here. This was enough for the site to become a place of pilgrimage (poutní místo Svatý Hostýn), probably one of the most popular in Moravia. In the 18th century, a beautiful baroque Jesuit church of the Assumption of the Virgin was built here. Under its large dome, a crowned Virgin is venerated. A spring with healing properties is said to be nearby.
