SAINTS-PETER-AND-PAUL CATHEDRAL
From Zelný Trh to the south-west of the square, Petrov's Hill, on which Brno's cathedral stands, is located on the Petite Trh. Surrounded by the palace palace complex (Biskupský Palác), the church is topped with impressive romantic arrows, quickly becoming symbols of the city of Brno. Built on the location of the first castle of the city and a basilica of Romanesque style (and perhaps even a temple dedicated to Venus), this church, Gothic originally, was burnt by the Swedes in 1645. It was rebuilt in baroque style and refurbished in Gothic style in the th century. Inside, we're crushed by the main altar, 12 m high, and decorated in particular by the statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, carved by Viennese Josef Leimer in 1881. The very high glass windows behind the altar are absolutely superb, extremely colourful and rich in a thousand details. This part of the building surrounding the altar enjoys a deep and warm light contrasting with the rest of the cream colour building. Perhaps this interior hides a secret: specialists are checking the hypothesis that the cathedral would still retain the bones of Saint Constantine, the father of Christianity in Central Europe. You can climb up a tower to admire the city. Or go down in the crypt of the th century.
