Plzeň (pronounced "peulzegne") is just as well known for its Škoda factories as for its beer brands. Founded in 1295, this brewery town has remained very industrial. It is an airy and renovated provincial town, home to a trendy Czech youth, a pleasant regional capital that is also worth a visit for its typical architecture of the time. Republic Square is home to the Renaissance town hall and many middle-class houses. The Gothic St. Bartholomew's Church has the highest tower in the country (103 m high)
