Terezín, a former military fortress built in the 18th century, has the size of a village: it has less than 3,000 inhabitants. It is actually worth visiting for its former transit camp set up by the Nazis in 1941. The Nazis occupied Bohemia, in the Czech Republic, where they temporarily rounded up Czech, German and Austrian Jews before deporting them to the death camps. Although this visit may seem macabre, it is in fact very moving and allows us to realize that the prisoners of the camp did everything to make their lives more bearable: they developed an intense artistic life.
