Kuks' fame was founded by Count František Antonín Špork. This patron of the arts wanted to turn this corner of the Elbe Valley into a world-famous spa. In fact, at the beginning of the 18th century, it was more famous than Karlovy Vary! It was richly decorated with statues and sculptures by Matyáš Bernard Braun, who was unknown at that time. But after the death of the count, his heirs lost interest in Kuks; floods and fires did the rest. The town's fame has since faded away. The only things that remain are the churchyard, the hospital, the pharmacy and, above all, the works of Matyáš B. Braun. Braun. Real jewels!
