Benešov is the capital of the Benešov district. The town has a population of around 16,875. Benešov is about 38 km southeast of central Prague. The town was founded in the 11th century and boasts a rich historical heritage. Sights include Konopiště Castle, once the residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Benešov also boasts a dairy belonging to the Danone group. For tourist information on the town, visitors can visit the tourist office on Masaryk Square.
