This town borders the northern border of the Křivoklátsko Forest Reserve. First mentioned in 1252, it fell under the authority, like many surrounding villages, of Křivoklát Castle. After being invaded by the Hussites, it was walled and became a royal town in 1588 by decision of King Rudolf II. Destroyed, burned and looted during the 17th and 18th centuries, it was developed again in the 19th century after being connected to the railway network. Today it is a very pleasant and little visited historical town. The surrounding forests and cliffs are great opportunities for hiking.
