Like Soligalitch, the village of Nerekhta is known for its salt production. It takes its name from the small river on the shores of which it was founded in the th century. The village was at stake in a war between Princes Tours and Laroslav in 1214. Extraction of brine and evaporation for obtaining salt was a difficult process for the time. The towers that sondaient the soil were equipped with a complicated system of rope and weight. In the th century, production ceased, due to the competition of a salt from centres located on the Lower Volga.
