His first owner of Ostafiévo, Prince Andrei Viazemski (large family descended from the Riourik), built the church, the residence itself and the park. His son Piotr gathered here the fine flower of Russian literature: Bariatinski, Gogol, Griboïédov, Davydov. Pushkin, who frequently visited Ostafiévo, called her the Russian Parnasse. Count Cheremietev enriches the vast collection of books, manuscripts, icons, objects and paintings already available. His son managed to save the estate during the Revolution of 1917 and set up a museum of nobility which lasted only a very short time. Cheremietev himself ended his days at the monastery of Novodevichy in deepest destitution and the property was transformed into a rest house. The proportions of the main building are perfect, but the interiors were altered. The classical church of the Trinity was restored and made to worship.
