Located on the banks of the Weaver River, Nantwich is bound to its salt production. In Roman times, the legionnaires had their balance half in silver, half in bags of salt. In spite of successive destruction, by the Norman and then Henri III, the city was rebuilt each time. In 1583, a fire destroyed her, but Queen Elizabeth I's financial assistance allowed her to revive her ashes in a splendid Elizabethan architecture. Today, the city attracts the curious for its gastronomy and its beautiful houses.
