With its 120 000 inhabitants, Chester is the main city of Cheshire. It is also one of the oldest in the country and certainly one of the most beautiful. The proximity of the Dee River has made it a large port and a thriving trade pole that has allowed it to build beautiful monuments; so well, in the north of England, there is no equivalent only in York. Today, this charming city retains an incredible stamp and the remains of its rich history. Its walls, very rare in Britain, surround the centre over 3 km. Witnesses of the military and political past of a site that was a stronghold for the Romans, then the Norman, the Saxons and even during the civil war. It was built in the th century and it takes a good time to turn around. While many houses date from medieval times, Chester also owes a lot to a group of local architects, who during the Victorian era underwent Renovations and built these many Renaissance style buildings, such as the city. Their black and white-half-timbered facades embody a new genus, drawing its sources in the Middle Ages. Down on the edge of the Dee, the Cheshire capital offers a completely different face, with small white houses, barges, musicians and quiet walks.
