Claimed to be England's most beautiful village, with a population of just 350, there's no denying its quirky English charm. In the north of Wiltshire, it's actually much closer to Bath and Bristol than to Salisbury and Stonehenge. Its gilded stone houses have been carefully preserved and are full of authenticity and character. Film scenes are regularly shot here, as in Steven Spielberg's War Horse. Don't hesitate to make a short stop along the way to soak up the picturesque surroundings and snap a few pretty photos. For further information: www.castle-combe.com
