THE GINGERMAN

World cuisine restaurant €€€
5/5
2 reviews

This is definitely one of Brighton's best restaurants. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city's nightlife, The Gingerman operates at its own pace - rather slowly, that is. Plan to spend the evening here, to fully savor the delights of the chef, who concocts modern, refined British cuisine. The restaurant has been open since 1998, and is the perfect place for a romantic evening, with its intimate setting right next to the waterfront. Dishes are seasonal, made with local produce and delicately flavored. Reservations recommended.

64 DEGREES

British restaurant €€€
5/5
1 review

Chic, contemporary and urban, 64 Degrees is a Brighton landmark and certainly the most gourmet restaurant in the Lanes. Critically acclaimed, its concept is a little surprising but hits the nail on the head: customers choose several small dishes of meat, fish and vegetables to compose their own menu. And the menu changes daily, always focusing on fresh, local dishes. Chef Michael Bremner opened 64 Degrees, winning first place in Brighton's Top 20 in 2016 and 2017. A real gem.

BATH ARMS

British restaurant €€

Its beautiful red corner storefront definitely doesn't go unnoticed, right in the center of the Lanes. It's the best pub in the surrounding lanes, with food that's a little more sophisticated than usual in this kind of establishment, and beers that are local, mainly from the South East and Brighton. The interior is very traditional, which makes it a good stop-off point on a visit to this typical neighborhood. And the service is particularly friendly, which doesn't spoil anything.

This small, ultra-authentic falafel restaurant is very much in keeping with the North Laine mentality. Mediterranean products take pride of place here, and wraps or pitas are classics to be accompanied by halloumi, avocado, hummus, olives, salads and more. The best thing to do is to take away and eat while discovering the neighborhood. And the special thing about this place is that it serves falafel, vegan and vegetarian dishes. Amal, the owner, grew up in the Middle East and shares his passion with fervor.

POMPOKO

A small Japanese eatery in the heart of Brighton, Pompoko serves good food at reasonable prices and has built up a loyal clientele of students and locals who appreciate the informal atmosphere and varied menu. Space is limited and reservations are not possible, so it's sometimes difficult to get a table if you're a large group. On the plus side, you can bring your own booze, and the corkage fee of £1 applies not per bottle but per head, which can be very profitable. If you're craving Japanese cuisine, go for it!

A true culinary representative of the USA in Brighton, JB's has gone all out on the decor, with a profusion of movie references, neon advertising, license plates, a statue of Uncle Sam and so many other little details. Black and white tiles and red banquettes complete the decor, while the American staff serves breakfasts, burgers, wraps, hot dogs, steaks and salads. The milkshakes and coffee are also excellent.
