Dover, Europe's leading passenger port, is the obligatory first port of call when arriving in England by boat (although you can also cross the Channel via other ports). From the sea, and even from Calais in fine weather, you can admire its famous white cliffs. the "Hellfire Corner" is a network of tunnels, including a "balcony" cut into the cliff, overlooking the English Channel, and dear to the hearts of the English since it was from here that Churchill organized the Allied landings in Normandy. Not to be missed: Dover Castle, dating from the 12th century, the second most visited site in England after Stonehenge.
