It was in the 19th century that Broadstairs became a more peaceful alternative for holidaymakers in the face of the growing popularity of Margate, its neighbour on the island of Thanet. Nicknamed Breezy Broadstairs, it is popular with Victorian visitors for its fresh, invigorating air and beautiful Viking Bay beach. Unspoiled and attractive, Charles Dickens himself used to visit it regularly on vacation. To this day, the passing of this famous visitor is remembered throughout the site. It is therefore a good idea to stay there one day after Margate for lovers of the famous English writer passing through the region.
