It is hard to imagine, when you walk along the beach of Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, which is so busy in summer, that it is the same Omaha Beach, the one that was nicknamed "Bloody Omaha". Yet it was there that some 3,000 men died during the D-Day landings. Thousands of losses are commemorated today by a museum, numerous monuments and vestiges, some of which are still visible on the beach. But this is only the recent history of the town, with a past as rich as unsuspected. There is a beautiful 13th century church and the remains of a fortified castle, whose scattered elements are now integrated into the Priory residence.
