Founded on 23 January 1528, the Vela is, like Coro, classified by UNESCO (1993). It is also a symbol city, as it is here that Francisco de Miranda landed on August 3, 1806 with the Venezuelan flag. This premature attempt at independence will lead to a resounding fiasco and ultimately to the imprisonment of Miranda. A former large port, before the oil and Punto Fijo, La Vela still has small streets with colonial appearance, especially on the bay. In the wake of old colourful buildings, there are many beautifully flowering patios. On the spot facing the sea, take a look at the old customs house built almost 400 years ago. At the moment, she hosts an antenna from the Miranda Experimental university, but you can still visit it at weekends.
