Valls is the capital of the Alt Camp region, a dynamic and pleasant town with more than 24,000 inhabitants, half of the total population of the region. It has a rich and varied architectural heritage - the Rosary Chapel, the Church of Sant Joan, the old Carmelite Convent - and excellent museums such as the Carriage Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Valls is also known as the "kilometer 0" of the castellers' world, the name given to the bold Catalans who formed themselves into human towers. A visit to the former air raid shelter, which takes the form of galleries dug under the cobblestone streets of the city center, will also provide an insight into the recent history of Catalonia by offering a critical study of the dark period of Francoism in Spain. Finally, there are a few good establishments to discover, in the vicinity of Carrer de la Cort, a street around which the semi-pedestrianized city center and its pleasant little cafés extend. Finally, it is worth mentioning that Valls is the city where the most emblematic culinary tradition in Catalonia was born, the famous calçotada. You will have the opportunity - and the duty! - to taste it! Also note that the dynamic tourist office (C/ Cort, 61) offers several guided tours of the city, including the Ruta Cor de la Ciutat (old town). Don't hesitate to look for information about the many cultural events organized in the city. More information on www.valls.cat and www.blog.visitavalls.cat
