Montblanc, the capital of the Conca de Barberà county, is perched on a hill overlooking vineyards (which in 1985 produced red and white wine with the Conca de Barberà appellation). It is a medieval village with a population of about 8,000 inhabitants, and is home to one of the best-preserved fortified walls in Catalonia. In fact, even before arriving in the town, the medieval silhouette strikes the visitor. The concentration of century-old buildings is breathtaking for such a small urban center: from the city walls to the churches of Santa Maria and Sant Miquel, not to mention the palaces and mansions of the 19th century, it is a sight to behold! Also worth mentioning is the beautiful wine cathedral built by Cesar Martinell at the beginning of the last century. In Montblanc you can find very good Catalan cuisine restaurants, but also a few restaurants offering more sophisticated dishes, and the accommodation options have the advantage of being in the heart of the old town, which is very picturesque. Finally, Montblanc is located in the heart of the Cistercian route, with a large number of hermitages, churches and monasteries (including Poblet). A natural stop, therefore, and unavoidable when passing through the Conca de Barberà.The medieval week. It begins on April 23 and corresponds to Saint George's Day. For a week, the city is immersed in its medieval past: streets, squares and walls are adorned with flags and forgotten lordly banners and many activities are organized such as theatrical reenactments of historical scenes, a market, a great medieval dinner ...
