This seaside resort benefits from the charm of its medieval village, now pedestrianized, as it is one of the few Mediterranean towns to have been built inside walls, built at the beginning of the 12th century, but dating from the end of the 14th century in their current form. Set in a cirque of pine forests, the village boasts a number of ancient buildings and offers pleasant strolls along steep streets lined with white houses. Tossa de Mar also boasts a superb natural environment of creeks, cliffs, pine forests and beaches, so it's easy to understand why it fascinated Marc Chagall, who called it a "blue paradise".
