Open since 2019 and located in the center, this Kombu proposes to offer a fusion between Japanese cuisine and Catalan classics. In a very minimalist decor and with a presentation that evokes the Japanese culinary world, you will be offered, for example: ceviches, Catalan chorizo accompanied by miso pasta or miso soup with fideuà. On the sweet side, fried Catalan cream punctuates the meal in a very pleasant way. It's light, rather innovative and the welcome of Andrés, who was trained on the tables of Roses, is very nice.

First, the food. I was at a table for four. My paella main course comprised mushrooms in rice, plus two tiny prawns and two mussels – totally inadequate. The fish that my wife chose was stale. We drank about two glasses of wine each (say at 150 ml per serving). Note that the waitresses topped up our glasses on request, but no bottles were left on the tables.
Now the wine scam. At least three people including the coach driver drank no wine. So 31 people did drink wine. At the end of the meal the organiser was presented with a bill for twenty (20) extra bottles of wine, in addition to the 7 which were included in the fixed price. So, subtracting one extra bottle to account for the table I was at, the restaurateur claimed that 31-4=27 people drank 19 extra bottles. This comes to about 680 ml per head including the ‘free’ initial glass – in other words, almost a bottle each! Totally impossible – most of them would have been drunk on that quantity, which they certainly were not.
In short the resto ripped us off by charging us for about 10 more bottles than we actually consumed – a total of 180 euro at 18 euro per bottle. The collection of empty bottles was kept out of our sight. No doubt more were added to the count than we drank. This is an outrageous scam.
Curiously, when the organiser and a couple of others tried to query the exorbitant bill, the proprietaire seemed suddenly unable to understand a word of either French or English (no-one in our party spoke fluent Spanish or Catalan).
The organiser felt obliged to pay the bill in full, under duress.
Be warned – the food is mediocre, and they will be out to scam you if you are not Spanish or Catalan. To be avoided at all costs.
