Trapped in the cashed valley of the Gunt, Khorog City follows the river river until its mouth in the Pyanj River, which marks the border with Afghanistan. Because of proximity to a conflict zone, the entire Badakhchan region is considered sensitive and road controls are more numerous than elsewhere. However, once we arrive at Khorog, there is no sense of insecurity. The city stretches, nonchalant, along the river, the tchaikas in summer are overcrowded with tourists watching the teenagers make jumping competitions from the bridges on Pyanj, and the guesthouses do not melt. Developments in Afghanistan have also allowed a small consulate to open its doors to travelers who can, here, cross the border after obtaining the visa in 24 h. Tourism resumes its rights in the region!
