Wickersheim is mentioned for the first time in a statement of the properties of Marmoutier Abbey in the 10th century and its neighbour Wilshausen in a charter of Emperor Henry IV who makes a donation of property located in Willingshusen to Seltz Abbey. The two were merged in 1972. The inhabitants of the two villages have always been given surprising nicknames: Sackührebeewle (boys with pocket watches, Schwellerutscher (sliders on door sills), Reuwewaddel (beet tails), Loujelbrunser (pissers in barrels), Kneppfelbich (quenelles belly) or Haumesserseck (machete carriers)...
