Practical information : Going out Florence - Firenze
Timetable
Nightclubs usually open around midnight and close around 4am. As for cinema, screenings take place throughout the day. Films are released on Thursdays in Italy and there is often an intermission in the middle of the screening.
Budget & Tips
A cinema ticket costs around €10 on weekdays. Reduced rates on Wednesdays between €6 and €8. A good deal! Please note, however, that VO screenings are quite rare, so a good command of Italian is essential. To find out which films are shown in which cinemas: www.mymovies.it.
To be booked
In May, during the prestigious Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, book well in advance (www.maggiofiorentino.com).
Night transport
In summer, some bus lines operate until 2:30 am. The "NotteTempo" buses run from 10 p.m. to around 2 a.m., and the streetcars run until around 12.30 a.m. The free "Moovit" app can be a great help.
Age restrictions
In Italy, the legal drinking age is 18 (raised from 16 to 18 in 2013). Italian law prohibits the sale of alcohol in cafés, bars and discos to anyone under 18. Be sure to keep your ID card with you at all times, so that you can show it at the entrance to establishments if necessary.
What's very local
Naturally, the Florentine dress code is one of elegance. However, the atmosphere in the bars remains relaxed. After the party, the obligatory stop is the cornetterie, a kind of late-night pastry shop, much sought-after by Italians! A real meeting place, they are often located outside the center of town. The best known is Bobo Check Point (Piazza Francesco Ferrucci, near the San Niccolò bridge).
Smokers
As in France, smoking is prohibited inside establishments. In most cases, smoking takes place in front of the bar or discotheque.
Tourist traps
For opera and theatre, trust only official retailers, preferably at the ticket office or on the Internet.
