National museums and monuments are generally closed on Mondays. They are generally open from 9am to 7pm, but some take a break between 1pm and 2:30pm. Churches open in the morning until noon or 12:30 and from 4pm to 7pm. Only the larger churches remain open throughout the afternoon, as in the case of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. Visits, however, are not permitted during celebrations.

Cafés are generally open from 7am to 9pm; those in Piazza San Marco close later, and may also offer evening concerts. Ice-cream parlors are open in season from 11am to 11pm or midnight.

(To) please yourself Venice

In general, stores open every day except Sunday (and sometimes Monday morning) from 10am to 1pm and from 2.30pm or 3pm until 7pm, or even 8pm. In Venice, for example, this range can be extended during the high season, when a large number of shops operate around the clock. In January, and often in August too, there's usually a fortnight's annual closure.
