Varenna is one of the lake's most charming and picturesque localities, much appreciated by Como residents who come here for their "Sunday stroll" with the family. It's a delight to stroll through the narrow, stepped streets of this small fishing village. From the pier, a promenade along the water's edge leads to the historic center, where the beautiful 14th-century church of San Giorgio with its medieval frescoes stands in the piazza. Then discover its magnificent villas buried in cypress trees. A little further south of Varenna lies the Fiumelatte river, the shortest in Italy at 250 metres.
