Tremezzo's origins date back to Roman times. In the Middle Ages, the village was part of the defensive system of the island of Comacina. In the 18th century, it was endowed with magnificent villas such as Villa Carlotta. Tremezzo is renowned for its beautiful lakeside, boutiques, alleyways and luxurious hotels. The Olivelli public park on the lakefront is home to a bar, the Tarocchiera, housed in an old house where wealthy local families used to come to play tarot. Other curiosities include a grand staircase linking the two parts of the park and a large fountain featuring two dolphins ridden by young children.
