Angera's enviable position in a small gulf on the eastern shore of the lake has made it a contested town over the centuries. Angera still preserves the imposing Rocca, a fortress capable of dominating the entire southern part of the lake and the commercial traffic that took place there at the time. The central pedestrian street runs through the historic center, following the ancient Roman layout. From here, several narrow streets lead down to the lakeside promenade. A stroll along the lake offers beautiful views of the Piedmontese coast and the islet of Partegora, which seems to emerge from the water as if by magic.
