Verbania is the largest city on Lake Maggiore and the capital of the province of Cusio-Verbano-Ossola. It was born in 1939 from the unification of Pallanza, Fondotoce, Suna and Intra. The town lives from tourism, commerce and industry. Already inhabited in Roman times, the village of Pallanza enjoys an excellent location on the promontory that juts out into the Borromean Gulf facing Stresa. Famous for its medieval buildings, baroque palaces and nineteenth century villas, Pallanza also has beautiful gardens, such as Villa Taranto. Nicknamed "the garden on the lake", the town is very popular.
