Once famous for its pink granite cellars, Baveno is a graceful little village that takes advantage of its location facing the Borromean Islands. Its historical centre preserves some remains that date back to the 10th century, as well as two beautiful 19th century villas, Villa Fedora and Villa Henfrey-Branca, where Queen Victoria stayed in 1879. From the lakeside, take the Via Monte Grappa to reach the back streets. In Piazza della Chiesa stands the octagonal baptistery of early Christian origin, as well as the Santi Gervasio e Protasio Chapel, built in pink and red granite stones
