The park owes its name to the fact that it is on the guideline that the Dome goes towards the Pas du Simplon, in the Alps. It was carried out on the old arms square in 1890, by the architect Alemagna with an irregular plan in contraposation to the regular structure of the urban fabric. The idea was a vast English park with streams, trails and small heights. The park houses Napoleonic arenas and Arco della Pace, the municipal aquarium, a theater (Teatro dell 'arte), the Triennale (exhibition pavilion in late 2007 the Design Museum), the Torre Branca, a fountain decorated by Chirico and a municipal library.
