Ayas is composed of several small communes, Champoluc and Antagnod in particular. Champoluc is the most important village in the Ayas Valley. The excellent Monterose Ski facilities link the Ayas Valley to the Gressoney Valley via the Bettaforca Pass, with over 150 km of pistes. For mountaineers, it is the ideal starting point for ascents to the Monte Rosa massif. The guide office (1, Guide Street, +39 346 244 1219 www.guidechampoluc.com) offers snowshoeing expeditions, climbing, ski touring and off-piste skiing Monterosa alpine ski area : 180 km of slopes (72% red, 11% black, 17% blue). Altitude: 1212 - 3250 m. This area is located at the foot of Monte Rosa and is made up of three valleys: Champoluc - Frachey (in the commune of Ayas), Gressoney - La Trinité and Alagna Valsesia. The excellent recent ski lifts are very efficient. The very high average altitude (between 1,650 and 3,275 metres, with the vast majority of runs above 2,000 m) ensures excellent snow cover until the end of April. The other, of more modest size and intended for a mainly family audience, extends over the sunny heights of Antagnod and enjoys a breathtaking panorama of the Mont Rose glaciers. Beginners can be satisfied with a "village" package, while the more experienced can opt for the "3 valleys" package. The new Mera snowpark and the Leonardo David Special night run are also worth a mention
