Borj Hammoud is located on the outskirts of Beirut. Less than a hundred years ago, it was an agricultural and swampy area on the eastern bank of the river. Then, starting in the 1900s, the area welcomed its first residents. With the agreement of the French proxy power, Armenian survivors of the 1915 genocide contributed to buy this land. Some districts of Borj Hammoud still bear the name of villages in Cilicia (Nor Marach, Nor Sis, Nor Adana). The district then became denser and commercial functions multiplied on the ground floor of two- to three-storey buildings. There are no specific sites to see, nor museums to visit, but one goes there to discover an atmosphere
