Once known as "Little Thessaloniki", Dojran has become a tourist resort. Boasting beautiful scenery with Lake Dojran, the Grand Couronne hill and the Beles massif in the background, the village boasts beaches, fish restaurants, hotels and a border post that allows Greek gamblers to enjoy its casinos. The once rich and diverse town was destroyed during the Second Balkan War (June-July 1913) and again during the First World War. It was rebuilt in three villages: Nov Dojran/Нов Дојран ("new Dojran"), northwest of the lake, Star Dojran/Стар Дојран ("old Dojran"), on the ruins of the town, and Doïrani/Δοϊράνη, just next door, in Greece. The latter is a place of remembrance with two large military cemeteries, one of them British. But Star Dojran is the place to play, have fun and dance. Since 2011, the village has played host to one of the coolest events in North Macedonia: the "D Festival" (dfestival.mk), held at the end of July, featuring bands in a wide range of styles: rap, reggae, house music, death metal..
