This elegant early 19th-century Bulgarian-Ottoman house (Куќата на Григор Прличев/Kuḱata na Grigor Prličev) belonged to the family of the Bulgarian writer and translator Grigor Prličev or Parlichev (1830-1893). A professor of Greek, he studied in Athens, where he was noticed in 1860 for his poem The Armatole (Ο Αρματολός) dedicated to a warrior who had fought the haiduks (brigands) of the Reka region. But he renounced his status as a "new Homer" to assert his Bulgarian identity. Sadly, the writer is presented here as "Macedonian".
