Matka Canyon (Клисура Матка/Klisura Matka, Kanioni i Matkës) can be reached via the village of Matka/Матка (Matka/Matkës). It has a population of around 460, 64% Albanian and 35% Macedonian. The entrance to the canyon is 1 km beyond the village, 14 km southeast of the center of Skopje (bus no. 60).This deep, magnificent canyon has been carved out by the Treska River over thousands of years. Man has added his own touch by building a dam here. The result: one of the most beautiful spots in the country. The site is rich in nature, caves, churches, monasteries... It's superb, but crowded on sunny days.
