CASTELLO DI DUINO

21 km from Trieste, in the Regional Nature Reserve of the Duino Cliffs, Duino Castle was the private residence of the Princes della Torre e Tasso, better known by their German name: von Thurn und Taxi. It has been open to the public since 2003. Liszt played in the castle on the piano in the salon, which dates from 1810. The castle houses a 13th century tower and a bunker, but what most attracts the visitor is the romantic beauty of the natural site, the green rock at the top of which sits the dizzying building, overlooking the Adriatic.
