Located 692 km north of Accra, 146 km west of Tamale, it is the largest (5,000 km²) and most famous of Ghana's natural parks. There is a hotel and trails to visit it by car. Three times smaller than its Ivorian counterpart, Comoë National Park, it is one of the two parks in Ghana designed to welcome tourists. People come to Mole mainly for the elephants, which are very easy to spot. Guides estimate their population in the park at 600, but no recent census exists. It is also possible to observe some species of antelopes, wild boars, monkeys. For other animals such as buffalos, deer, leopards, hyenas, jackals, baboons and crocodiles, it is necessary to go a little further than the traditional three-hour walk. For those who don't want to take their meals at the motel, remember to bring a supply of food. You can also go to Larabanga, the nearest village, 6 km south of the park.It is possible to visit the park on foot with a guide. The walkers leave three times a day: at 7am, 11am and 3:30pm and the walk lasts 2 hours. To increase the chances of seeing wildlife, the best option is to hire a park ranger and rent a car to cover a larger area. Note that the best time to visit the park is during the dry season, from November to May, when the tall grass has disappeared and the animals gather around the few water holes. In the rainy season, the grass is high and the landscape green, the chance of seeing animals is reduced but the walk is still recommended.
