Achill Island is the largest island on the Irish coast, connected to the mainland by a swing bridge between the villages of Achill Sound and Polranny, the Michael Davitt Bridge. The Atlantic Drive begins at the Corraun Peninsula: the sea runs along a coastline of pebbles and deserted mountains populated by an avalanche of rocks. The road follows the sea; it is really the wild Ireland as the imagination has always thought it, as the call of the journey has always sublimated it. The island is 87% covered by peat bogs. The most animated village of Achill Island is Keel, where you can find some nice places to stay.
