This fishing village at the foot of Mount Errisberg (298 m) is perhaps the most beautiful in Connemara. Its harbor is always full of lobster boats andcurrachs, the typical western rowing boats. You can walk from the town center to the top of the mountain (about 2 hours), where you can enjoy great views of the bay and the peaks of the Twelve Bens. The beautiful beaches of Roundstone are also very popular. A little further on, towards Ballyconneely, are the white sandy beaches of Gurteen Bay and Dog's Bay. Near Roundstone is an impressive bog (Roundstone Bog) which is said to be haunted.
