This charming little fishing village is the starting point for exploring the islands of Inishbofin and Inishturk. It is also a good place to find accommodation if the hotels in Clifden are full, or simply to stop at a pub. It is advisable to climb to the top of Cleggan Hill to discover the ruins of a tower built in the 19th century during the Napoleonic Wars. The tower itself, destroyed by the wind and the weather, is not very interesting, but the view is superb. Finally, Cleggan is also the place to be for horseback riding on the beaches.
