Carran, or Carron, is a charming little rural village in the hills, offering beautiful views of the Burren. It is the notorious birthplace of Michael Cusack (1847-1906), co-founder of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), the powerful Gaelic sports federation (hurling, camogie, Gaelic soccer, Gaelic handball and rounders). In Carran, there are also the ruins of a church (15th century) that testify to the Christian presence. Surrounded by a graveyard, only its porch and its construction are of any interest. But its isolated location makes it a superb place to visit, at the top of a site that has become greener
